Preparing for Summer

Staff training is where we lay the foundation for a successful summer. It’s not only about learning skills—it’s about building community, growing as leaders, and preparing to care for campers well.

Here's what to expect...

🎥 Pre-Camp Videos – About 4 hours of online training to complete before you arrive.

⛺ On-Site Training – 2 weeks of hands-on prep, team building, and learning what it means to serve at Lutherdale.

We’ll talk about the “Minimum Viable Staff Member” (the basics for keeping campers safe and camp running smoothly) and how to grow into a G.R.E.A.T. Camp Staff Member.

Non-Negotiables - These are expectations you commit to every day as staff.

🛡️ Safety Protocols – Protect campers and staff at all times.

👀 Supervision & Care – Stay attentive and meet camper needs.

🤝 Professional Conduct – Respect policies and represent camp well.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Teamwork – Work together and support each other.

Commitment to Schedule – Show up on time and be present.

🌟 Positive Role Modeling – Lead with kindness, joy, and faith.

🔄 Flexibility – Adapt when plans change.

🚦 Boundaries – Build safe, respectful relationships.

📈 Continuous Learning – Apply feedback and keep growing.

❤️ Passion for Youth – Love working with kids and helping them thrive.

 G.R.E.A.T. Camp Staff Framework

During training, we’ll use this framework to practice what it means to go above and beyond:

G – Greeting & Welcoming → Make campers feel safe, seen, and excited.

R – Relationship Building → Create connections that make camp feel like home.

E – Establishing Systems → Use routines to keep camp running smoothly.

A – Amazing Memories → Bring energy and creativity to spark unforgettable moments.

T – Tough Situations → Handle challenges with patience and compassion.

Why it matters...

By committing to the non-negotiables and living into the G.R.E.A.T. framework, you’ll help create a camp where kids feel safe, grow in faith, build friendships, and take home memories that last a lifetime.
